Watch: 6 Best Movers in Chicago (2026)

How we score

Rating is the live Google average pulled from each company’s listing. Review volume tracks how many customers actually rated the mover, weighed against the others on this page. Confidence blends rating and volume together, since a perfect score on a small number of reviews carries less weight than a strong score built on thousands. Recency checks how recently people are still leaving reviews. No business can pay to change any of these numbers.

How much do movers cost in Chicago? (2026)

Based on reviewer-reported price tags across the movers on this page, cost scales heavily with how much you’re moving, how many flights of stairs are involved, and whether you add full packing.

Job	Typical price
Small local move, labor only	$200-600
Standard local apartment move	$600-1,500
Larger local move with full packing	$1,500-2,500
Large or complex move (multiple stops, heavy items)	$2,500+

Ranges compiled August 2026 from reviewer-reported price highlights on Google Reviews across the movers on this page.

Serving all of Chicago

These crews cover the city broadly, from New City Moving and Move4U in North Center and Lakeview to H2H Movers on the North Side and 2 Guys and a Van based in Lincoln Park, with Ampol Moving and Two Men and a Truck extending coverage into the northwest suburbs and downtown high-rises. Wherever you’re moving from or to in the city, a mover near you in Chicago is likely on this list.

What to ask before you book movers in Chicago

Is the company fully licensed and insured in Illinois, and can they provide proof?
Is packing included, or is it a separate add-on service?
How is the final price calculated, hourly or a flat quote?
Do they charge extra for stairs, elevators, or long carries?
What happens if something gets damaged during the move?
Do they offer storage if there’s a gap between move-out and move-in?

Frequently asked questions

Which Chicago movers offer storage?

New City Moving offers set-rate storage alongside its moving services, and Two Men and a Truck operates a climate-controlled storage facility in Northbrook.

Which of these movers is best for a big or complicated move?

H2H Movers stands out for full-service packing and heavy furniture handling, based on reviewer descriptions of large, multi-hour jobs.

The bottom line

New City Moving is the safe default in Chicago on the strength of its review depth alone. If you want full-service packing or have particularly heavy furniture, H2H Movers is worth a look, and Ampol Moving is a solid pick if you’re in the northwest suburbs or need a container unloaded rather than a full household move.
